On July 6th, 2014, I also moved Cleopatra (a black queen from a split made with Mel’s stock) to the Garst Farm. She is in a single deep. She is marked yellow, but Liz and I did not see here when we looked last night (July 18). There was a tremendous amount of brood in the hive, and she could do with a second deep. I am working on that. My trip last week to Mr. Martin in PA came up empty, as he was mostly sold out.

On the same stand is Cleopatra’s sister, a second split from Mel’s stock. This one is doing very well, and lives in double deep. The top box is 70% full of honey, and LIz and I could not imaging lifting that off to go into the brood box. Everyone seemed happy. I will call this queen Peo, just in case we ever use her for grafting. Peo has just about enough space and with the dearth coming (but looking at the Garst farm hives, not there), I will leave it for now. I interspersed empty frames in between the full frames of honey for extra space for now. Peo is not yet marked.
